The FoodMinds upwaRD program is an industry-leading professional recognition and development program that elevates the voices of emerging nutrition communication leaders. Winners are selected for their expertise in translating evidence-based nutrition recommendations into exciting, engaging, and accessible messages on a variety of different platforms and channels.
What inspired you to specialize in nutrition communications?
I’ve always wanted to become a dietitian to help people, and working in nutrition media allows you to reach so many people. While I enjoy working with individuals and groups, the “one to many” approach to nutrition education allows me to access so many more individuals than I could otherwise.
What platform or medium do you think is especially powerful for nutrition education in 2026 and why?
I think video content is huge right now. With the ever-growing popularity of apps like TikTok and shrinking attention spans, bite-sized video content that offers credible nutrition information, healthy recipes, or actionable wellness meets consumer where they’re at.
What are you currently working on that excites you?
I’m currently trying to improve my verbal communication skills. I have a few podcast opportunities, and I’m also creating more “talk to camera” content that feels personal and more connected. I feel this is a skill that maybe isn’t getting enough attention in a world that has become so virtual and AI-saturated.
What advice would you give to dietitians who want to build a platform or voice?
I would say just start! Pick a lane, whether that’s social media, writing, or educational videos, and produce content at a rate you can stay consistent with for at least a few months. Then see what’s working and pivot as needed. We learn the most by taking action and refining over time.
What influences your perspective or creativity?
Taking a step away from the screens and getting in nature or traveling always allows me to access my creativity. I’ve gotten some of my best ideas on a walk or in a foreign country, and I think it’s necessary to disconnect from technology sometimes to connect with your inner knowing.
