Today’s Dietitian Spring Symposium – Key Takeaways

The Today’s Dietitian Spring Symposium is an annual continuing education event for registered dietitians and nutrition professionals that offers sessions, workshops, and presentations led by some of the foremost experts in dietetics and nutrition.

After four jam-packed days of education and discussion, FoodMinds left the Symposium with these four key takeaways:

  1. Start in the Kitchen: Culinary was a throughline across multiple sessions, with an emphasis on how these practices can be a catalyst for long-term health. Creating accessible spaces, using culturally relevant messaging and implementing skills-based programming were some of the tools explored as ways to promote health equity and drive lasting behavior change.
  2. Bring Everyone to the Table: Collaborative, interprofessional approaches within the healthcare team are crucial to providing the best possible patient-centered care and driving program success.
  3. Support Shouldn’t Stop: As weight loss medication use continues to grow, sessions highlighted the increasing importance of providing nutritional support to these individuals both while taking these medications and after use is discontinued to support long-term weight management.
  4. Breaking Through: The nutrition message has never been more important, but how it’s communicated dictates its impact. Registered dietitians are trusted voices who can credibly and empathetically connect with audiences in a way that leverages expertise and emotion.

And that’s a wrap on #TDinTX!
